Money, Money, Money. The Con trades in the $ like nobody’s business. And I’m not talking about the $200 Grant Morrison signing, I’m talking about a few monetary things of weirdness that I’ve discovered while I’m here.
One: Some people have no idea about comic worth.
Case in point, this table:

Whereas you have savvy collectors trading in thousands of dollars of rare Golden Age books, haggling over prices and tiny flaws, and squeezing out discounts and cash incentives, this guy just threw some books on the table, no bags, no concern about condition, and said they’re all 10 bucks. Sir, that takes BALLS.
On the other hand, there are the people flush with cash, namely The New York Times.

This is the actual New York Times convention booth where they are handing out money. Read that again, New Yorkers, they are handing out free money if you subscribe to the Times. I think it’s $20 if you just get Sundays, more if you get it daily. Still, with the lure of the cash, there wasn’t much interest when I walked by the booth.
And then there’s the extreme end, the people who would like your money very much and would appreciate it if you bought his book.

That’s Jason Becker, author of Archaia’s book Killing Pickman. The plea worked – I bought his book. Haven’t read it, but the art looks solid. Lotta spirals, and I like spirals.
